Much Obliged: Veteran appreciated family’s kindness

I was recently at Perkins Restaurant in Brainerd for breakfast.

A mother and her two small daughters were in a booth behind me. The little girls acknowledged me and thanked me for my service as I was wearing a veteran hat.

As they were leaving, the mother walked by and placed three small note cards on my table.

Two of the notes were from the little girls, Paige and Grace. There were hearts drawn on them and notes, again thanking me for my service. The third note was from the mother, Tara who also thanked me for my service. It said, “It’s because of people like you that we get to enjoy the simple things in life. More people should acknowledge the good you’ve done. Thank you so much for your sacrifices.”

Under the notes was also a $20 bill.

I left Perkins and went straight to the Crow Wing County Veterans Service Office and gave them that generous donation.

Thank you.
