Local vet issues challenge to help soup kitchen
BAXTER—Lakeland Veterinary Hospital in Baxter announced it is challenging other area businesses to raise money and food for the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen.
"The soup kitchen helps so many in our community and is in serious financial straits. Please help," a Facebook post for the business stated.
Soup kitchen manager Bob Evans told the Dispatch the organization has experienced a downturn in contributions compared to previous years.
The non-denominational, nonprofit Christian organization is facing more than $8,000 in cashflow deficits over the last two months and has used up its savings, so the soup kitchen needs to raise about $20,000 by Thanksgiving Day to stay open, according to Evans, who is a pastor.
Stop in to Lakeland Veterinary Hospital any time between Nov.13 and Dec. 1 to leave cash or a food donation.
