BAXTER -- Ready … set … rainbow!

That’s how the race began Saturday, Sept. 14, at Forestview Middle School in Baxter -- with a colorful array drifting through the air after participants unleashed packets of color powder. Hosted by the Brainerd High School Yearbook Committee, the 5K and 1K color run events benefited The Lighthouse Project, a nonprofit seeking to improve mental health care and suicide prevention in the Brainerd school system. The organization got its start by classmates of Jake Happajoki, who died by suicide in February 2018.

Those who registered for the event received T-shirts and a packet of color powder, which helped the color run live up to its name.

The race coincided with National Suicide Prevention Month.
