Round up of Fourth of July events in the Brainerd lakes area

Proclaimed the "Fourth of July Capital," Brainerd/Baxter holiday festivities will feature a parade and fireworks Wednesday, July 4, with various other events in the days leading up to and following July 4.

Following is a schedule of events:

Monday, July 2

5-8 p.m.: Right Friends Picnic, Confidence Learning Center.

Wednesday, July 4

The American Celebration

4 p.m.: Parade, Brainerd. Grand marshal is Citizen of the Year Steve Mau.

6:30 p.m.: SFO - Salute to Kansas and Foreigner, Don Adamson Sports Complex, Brainerd High School. Free admission.

8-10 p.m.: SFO - A Tribute to Journey

10 p.m.: Presentation of the flag and Amanda Nieuwsma performs the national anthem.

10:15 p.m.: Fireworks, Don Adamson Sports Complex, Brainerd High School.

Friday-Saturday, July 6-7

Iconic Fest, Green Lantern.

Friday, July 12

BLACF 20th Anniversary Celebration, 5:30 p.m., Gull Lake Center.

Friday, July 13

6 p.m.: Wounded Warriors softball game, Mills Field.

Saturday-Sunday, July 14-15

"This One's for Hop" softball tournament called the Hopper Tourney, Memorial Park, Brainerd.

CROSBY

The Crosby Fire Department sponsors the annual Fourth of July events.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, in Ironton and continues through downtown Crosby ending on East Main Street.

Join the crowd in the Crosby Memorial Park after the parade to enjoy live music, food vendors, a beer garden and other items of interest.

End the day at dusk with a fireworks display put on by the Crosby Fire Department and its members.

CROSSLAKE

2018 marks the 48th year Crosslake has been celebrating America's freedom with a fireworks display. The Celebrate America-Crosslake Fireworks Display will be at dusk (around 10 p.m.) Saturday, July 7.

Fireworks will be launched from barges anchored near Sand Island on the south end of the lake. View the fireworks from the water and shores of Cross Lake.

New this year, tune into Hubbard Broadcasting's B93.3 FM radio and listen to music that's been choreographed for the display.

Organizers seek help to support this annual tradition. Anyone who makes a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more will receive a shout-out of appreciation on the radio broadcast before or after the fireworks display.

LONGVILLE

Come to Longville and enjoy the parade, food and fun all day beginning with a parade at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, downtown.

There will be a food court featuring many different food vendors in the city parking lot across from the city docks. The chamber will sell Mary Etta Pies, hot dogs, hamburgers and pop. Other treats usually include walking tacos, cheese curds, sno cones and a beer garden.

There will be inflatables, Bingo and lots of games for all ages.

At dusk, Longville's fireworks display will take place over Girl Lake.

NISSWA

The annual Nisswa Freedom Days celebration will take place Tuesday, July 3, throughout downtown Nisswa, featuring the Freedom Days Parade at 7 p.m.

Following is a schedule of events:

Tuesday, July 3, downtown Nisswa

All day: Eats, treats and shopping.

1-2 p.m.: Turtle race registration.

2 p.m.: Turtle races.

2 p.m.: Lakes Area Legion Classic baseball game at Nisswa City Park, featuring the Crosslake/Nisswa Legion team against the Brainerd Legion team.

3-7 p.m.: Live music featuring The Nissfits on an outdoor stage at the Pickle Factory.

7 p.m.: Parade down Main Street featuring various floats, marching veterans groups, high school marching band, clowns, area royalty, fire trucks, car clubs, horse-riding groups and more.

After the parade: Live music featuring The Express Band on an outdoor stage at the Pickle Factory, and live music featuring Shotgun Drama Junkies at the Nisswa American Legion.

Also in Nisswa, a fireworks show will take place at dusk Monday, July 2, at The Pines golf course at Grand View Lodge.

And the annual Nisswa Firecracker Run featuring 5K and 10K races, as well as a Kids Fun Run, will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 7, in downtown Nisswa.

PEQUOT LAKES

The Pequot Lakes Fire Department will host its annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast fundraiser from 7-11 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the fire hall at 4638 Main St.

Pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee will be served.

Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for ages 12 and under.

Those who attend will be able to meet their local firefighters and view fire fighting equipment, fire trucks and the fire hall before the parade at noon.
