The 46-year-old bridge over the Pine River in Crosslake aged a few more years yesterday, when the boom of a “jammer truck” crashed into its overhead girders. The truck driver wasn’t injured but the bridge was buckled and traffic was delayed.

(Photo) Here is the U.S. Army Reserve Center to be dedicated this weekend, followed by an open house. It is named for Corp. Terrance A. Peterson, son of the Cleon Petersons, Brainerd. He was a medic killed while on patrol in the Republic of Korea in 1968.

Action on a request from District Five, Oak Lawn, to annex five sections of that school district to Brainerd was delayed by the Brainerd School Board due to transportation problems. A delegation from the Riverton district also met with the Brainerd board.

Brainerd relief agencies were considering the slogan of the Fergus Falls chapter of the Red Cross – “No garden, no relief.” City garden plots will be made available, but there is no action here yet to make planting a garden mandatory to receiving welfare funds.

The Brainerd-Cuyuna Mining Co. has a test drill on the Holland property within the south Brainerd city limits. They have encountered 200 feet of iron ore averaging 58 percent, virtually guaranteeing the sinking of a shaft this spring.
