The Warrior softball team got off to its best start in six years, shutting out Little Falls 3-0 to move to a 3-1 overall record. Sarah Houle tossed a two-hitter, striking out six. Amy Broneak went 2 for 3 and Ann Broneak 1 for 2 and scored a run for Brainerd.

30 years ago (1984)

“Cross-country skiing is an international language; everyone gets along,” says Dr. Paul Milloy of Brainerd. He and his daughter Tessa just returned from competing in a race at Murmansk, Russia. Tessa, a Brainerd High School senior, carried the U.S. flag in the skiers parade.

40 years ago (1974)

(Photo) The largest Brainerd Community College evening class is Business Law, instructed by Winston Borden, Brainerd attorney and state legislator. The college is conducting the largest array of evening courses in its history.

60 years ago (1954)

Bids for construction of additions to Franklin Junior High School will probably be called for in late May, according to the school board. Cost of the Franklin additions, which is the first of a five-part school construction program, is estimated at $700,000.

80 years ago (1934)

Baseball fans of Brainerd and Little Falls worked up a lather of interest on the chance of a Northern League team jointly for the two towns. The team would play weekday games in Brainerd, and Sunday and holiday games in Little Falls.

100 years ago (1914)

John Mahlum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mons Mahlum, carried away the honors in a debate at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. and won a cash prize of $25. John is just a freshman and, paired with a sophomore, they defeated two senior debaters.
