One person has been arrested on assault charges and two males were hospitalized with broken bones after 12 men rushed into a SE Brainerd home and attacked four men there. Police Chief John Bolduc expects several other men to be charged in what he says is an ongoing dispute between two groups, several of whom are CLC students.

Shelly Breen and Al Stier were honored last night as the Outstanding Athletes – female and male – at the Warrior All-Sports Banquet. Breen was the first girl to score 1,000 points in basketball, and captained her tennis, basketball and golf teams. Stier, transferred here as a soph, went on to star in football, basketball and baseball.

Three-sport stars Rob Veith and Ramona Rugloski were named male and female Athletes of the Year during the All-Sports Banquet at Brainerd High School. Rugloski is currently competing in track and also starred in basketball and swimming. Veith is competing in baseball, and also starred in football and basketball.

As draft registration expands to men in the age group of 45 to 65 years, Brainerd men numbering 1,741 registered in the past three days. Complete returns of the registration should be turned in to Al Mraz of the county registration board by noon tomorrow. A total near 3,500 is expected.
100 years ago (1922)
Col. Freeman Thorp of Hubert, noted painter, spoke to students in Duluth. He told of his experience witnessing Pres. Lincoln's address at Gettysburg, where Thorp sketched Lincoln and later made the famous painting which hangs in the U.S. Senate. Lincoln later told him the charge of the 1st Minn. Regiment was the most remarkable battle charge in history.

39/50: This truck belonged to Silas Hall's Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street).
