Several county citizens urged the county board to return to hand-counted paper ballots after they said equipment breakdowns eroded the public’s trust in the election system. The county switched to the optical scan system from punch cards in 1992.

Jon Stolski of Brainerd High School was named a quarterback on the Minn. High School All-Star Football Outstate Team. Two other Central Lakes Conference players will join the team. The game against the Metro All-Stars will be at Parade Stadium on July 28.

Without discussion, Brainerd’s city council last night killed fluoridation. They voted unanimously to request the water and light board to “permanently postpone fluoridation, with no referendum.” Citizens opposed presented petitions with 4,363 signatures.
