The “largest game fish bust in the state,” according to the DNR officials, concluded yesterday when four out-of-state family members were found guilty of taking 1,850 crappies totaling 237 pounds of filets. Each of the four was fined $1,100 and 60 days.

Personnel of the 409th Infantry Regiment, Organized Reserve Corps of Brainerd and the area, leave for two weeks summer training at Camp McCoy, Wisc. Company C is commanded by 1st Lt. Buddy Smilonich, and Company M by Capt. Walter Silbaugh. 

 

80 years ago (1931)

The man liked Brainerd, but officers of the city and the N. P. Railroad didn't necessarily like him. He slept two nights at the city jail, then was asked to leave. Instead he slept in a boxcar. Judge Warner found him guilty of trespass and fined him $10 or leave town. He left.

 

100 years ago (1911)

Preparations are complete for the two baseball games at Little Falls on Sunday. The special train of six coaches will leave at 12:30 p.m. and, upon arrival, there will be a parade of fans, the city band and automobiles that make the trip. Fans will wear red ribbons.
