20 years ago (1991)

It was unofficially “Johnson” day at the Fargo Invitational hockey tournament. The Warriors defeated Vincent Massey, of Winnipeg, 6-2. Brainerd’s Jason Johnson scored four goals and his twin, Jerr, had the other two. Darrell Johnson scored both VM goals.

30 years ago (1981)

A powerful Swedish team, defending champion in the World Junior Hockey Tournament, and currently trailing only Canada in the standings, beat determined, but winless West Germany at the Brainerd Civic Center before 1,100 local fans.

Attorney General Warren Spannaus has ruled that the certificate of value required to be filed with each transfer of property is a public record available for inspection. The ruling was made at the request of Crow Wing County Attorney Carl Erickson.

60 years ago (1951)

(Photo) Captain Leonard Espinosa of the Salvation Army and George McPheeters, chairman of the board of directors, load a car with Christmas bundles headed for needy area families. The Salvation Army this year distributed 89 Christmas baskets.

80 years ago (1931)

Trailing 23-13 at the close of the 3rd quarter, the Brainerd Merchants launched an effective fight to overcome Virginia’s Bridgman-Russell team 28-24. Johnny Gabiou led the charge as Brainerd outpointed their rivals 15 to 1 in the final five minutes of play.

100 years ago (1911)
