The Warrior boys finished 3rd in the Burnsville Invitational basketball tourney with a 75-62 victory over Minnetonka. It brought their season record to 5 and 2. Center Kyle Smith led Brainerd with 26 points, and Al Stier followed with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office warned snowmobilers to stay well clear of a 30-foot wide gap in the ice on Mille Lacs Lake that has already claimed three lives. The eight-mile long gap is near the south shore of the lake, just south of Malmo.

Two snowmobiles stolen from a vacationing Iowa group were recovered and a suspect is being held in the Walker jail. Members of the Iowa group spotted the two stolen machines being used near Squaw Point, gave chase and captured one of the men.

Dr. J.A. Thabes of Brainerd, through the Brainerd Dispatch, is offering 1,000 cords of dry wood free to needy families in an effort to stave off suffering from cold this winter. The wood is in the form of slashings on a tract of land owned by Dr. Thabes.

Thirty-four residents in the vicinity of Gull River have signed a petition to put in a telephone line to connect with the Northwestern Telephone Exchange, involving 26 miles of line. A meeting to promote the project will be held at the Gull Lake school house.
