The Heartland Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Felix Spooner, presented its annual Christmas concert to a mostly packed house at Tornstrom Auditorium. The theme of the concert was “Fun, Fairy Tales, Fantasy and Christmastide.”

An unseasonable cold snap is holding the area in a frigid grip today. The mercury dropped to 21 degrees below zero last night and it was up to only -10 at noon today. A year ago the high temperature was 34 degrees and the low was only 26 degrees.
60 years ago (1952)
The big community Christmas tree has been erected near the Brainerd railroad depot at 6th and Washington Streets. From now until the Christmas Season is over it will be ablaze each night with the glow from 750 bulbs. Lights will switch on tonight for the first time.
80 years ago (1932)
Activity in the Brainerd Community Relief fund drive was apparently at a low ebb today. Committee chairs report minimal donations recently. The drive hopes to raise $5,000 to defeat hunger and ravages of cold for the needy this winter. Only $3,000 has been raised.
100 years ago (1912)
The iron ore shipping season has ended with all records broken. All indications are that 1913 will see records broken again. The Northern Pacific will commence shipping Cuyuna Range ore, including the Barrows mine and the Adams mine at Oreland.
