The 1981 Citizen of the Year, who some called a building block of Brainerd and others called Mr. Brainerd, died at Bethany Good Samaritan. Ray Bang, 82, bought into a printing business after WWII and it grew to become Bang Printing.
30 years ago (1984)
The C-I Rangers have a rich basketball tradition and a Selisker has often been a part of it. Until 1981, Bill Selisker was the head coach, and his sons Tim and Mark played for him. Now, the youngest son, Greg, plays for the Rangers and is close to the 1,000 point mark.

60 years ago (1954)
The city council tossed the fluoridation issue back to the Water and Light board without action after receiving three petitions at its meeting. One was for fluoridation, one against and one called for a public vote. It was thought 5 of 7 council members would ask for a referendum.

100 years ago (1914)
The council passed the gas ordinance by a vote of 6 to 4. The franchise will be organized as the Brainerd Gas Co., and will be operated by two St. Cloud men. A plant costing $100,000 will be built. Gas will sell for $1.25 for fuel and $1.40 for lighting.
