The Brainerd Fire Department and other emergency personnel responded when a stuck elevator trapped two people at the Brainerd Downtown Mall. Officials “bled” the hydraulic system to lower the elevator to the basement, then opened the door with a key.

Hockey bedlam reigned supreme at Detroit Lakes as Crookston was put to the test by Brainerd before escaping with a 6-5 OT victory in sub-region play. Stout goal tending by Tom Kientzle kept the Warriors in the game, and Jeff Wiltse notched a hat trick.

In a ragged, foul-filled contest at St. Cloud, Brainerd outlasted the Tech Tigers 60-53 to close their conference record at 9-1. Jon Jelacic led all scores with 23 points and Jim Guin had 16. Many reserves were used as Brainerd had 26 fouls and St. Cloud 30.

Smashing the pins in a phenomenal burst of consistent scoring, Clayton Rardin shattered the all-time local bowling record at Van’s Alleys. He rolled 238, 233 and 265 for a total of 736. His team, the Golden Grains, set a team season record of 3,025.

Theodore Miller is again supplying the Dispatch with weather reports and the public is now reading Brainerd weather and not the Gull Lake dam weather. During the recent cold snap the dam weather froze up the telephone lines and it was impossible to get the news.
