Brainerd fell 3.5 points short of advancing to the Section 8AA team wrestling tournament, finishing fifth in the individual tournament. Individually, Matt Ostrowski defended his 125-pound regional title to advance to state. Brock Larson will go at 160.

Two goals within the final minute of the opening period gave Moorhead a 3-2 win over the Warriors. The loss ended a 6-12-3 season for Brainerd. Coach Tom Younghans said, “We didn’t win a single overtime or one-goal game the entire season.”

The opinions of Brainerd gas station operators were sought today in a meeting of tourism officials, the Brainerd Chamber and dealers discussing a gas crisis contingency plan. Brainerd is one of the areas where some stations could open on Sunday to serve tourists.

Mrs. W.S. “Bea” Ross, city editor of the Dispatch, and Miss Arvy Hansen, editor of the C-I Courier, won awards at the contest of Minnesota Press Women Convention in St. Paul. Ross took three first places and Hansen took two firsts, a second and a third.

Hard liquor was finally legal in Brainerd after the city council moved swiftly to approve three “off sale” licenses – to Dunn Drug Store, Skauge Drug and Louis Roth – and one “on sale” license. The latter went to the Elks Club under a special club provision.
100 years ago (1914)
West Brainerd is entitled to street and bridge lighting was the gist of a motion passed by the Booster Club at their Friday meeting. This supported the petition signed by 40 people from West Brainerd and presented to the city council. Better lighting is a duty the city owes.
