20 years ago (2002)

30 years ago (1992)

The Warrior boys' hockey team had their biggest offensive day in nine seasons, beating Little Falls 13-3. Fifteen players had points, led by Pete Younghans two goals and two assists, hat tricks from Jerr Johnson and Mark Johnson, and three assists from Jason Johnson. In 1982-83, Brainerd beat Bagley 20-0 in the section playoffs.

40 years ago (1982)

Coach Roger Nibbe said, “That's the best half I've ever seen the girls play,” talking of the first half in the Warrior girl's 54-34 win at Willmar. Keys to the win were the rebounding of Ramona Rugloski and Kitty Brown, with 11 and 12 respectively. In the second half Willmar fouled often, but Brainerd made 24-of-34 free throws.

60 years ago (1962)

Beatsie Fieldman, whose previous exploits have been on the golf links where she has been a championship contender, bowled the new high series for women in Brainerd. Her 652 – on games of 234, 221 and 197 – topped the previous record of 647 set in 1958. In women's association records to 1948, only 13 600s have been rolled.

80 years ago (1942)

Mrs. A.C. Weber, of the county tire rationing board, said that the county's allotment for the month is 64 tires and 57 tubes. “Our quota is for our county alone,” she said, “and we can't do anything for drivers from outside.” Mrs. Weber said the board has allowed purchase of 27 tires and 19 tubes thus far.

100 years ago (1922)

American League pitchers this past season had difficulty with hitters due to the “lively” ball. “Bullet” Joe Bush of the Boston Red Sox still had a good year, going 16-9 and pitching 254 innings. His ERA was 3.51. In hitting, Bush had 39 hits in 120 at-bats for a .325 average, and he hit 3 home runs.
