The St. Francis Soup Kitchen is headed downtown with a new name – the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen. Dick Endres, chair of the board, said they will move to S. 7th Street thanks to a $1,250 donation from Father Steve Schaitberger and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

30 years ago (1982)

“Brutus,” the newest member of the Brainerd Police Department, is only a few feet tall, doesn’t wear a badge and wouldn’t know what to do with a gun. But he can sniff out crime. He’s a police dog, Brainerd’s first, and is handled by Officer Tom Wachsmuth.

40 years ago (1972)

Some construction work came to a halt here as local contractors joined with others statewide in a lockout of workers. Work stopped on a water treatment plant at the Northwest Paper Mill and Park Methodist Church. Work continued on the Army Reserve armory.

60 years ago (1952)

(Adv.) MGM’s drama of a wicked empire and the love story between a pagan soldier and a Christian slave girl. “Quo Vadis,” starring Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr, with Leo Genn and Peter Ustinov. Gull Drive-In Theatre – Highway 371 North – Brainerd.

80 years ago (1932)

Mrs. Stewart C. Mills, a delegate at large to the Democratic convention opening in Chicago, left today by motor accompanied by her brother, Mr. Wolf, of Staples. The other Brainerd delegate, Henry P. Dunn, will travel to Chicago by rail.

100 years ago (1912)

Of all the bold, bare-faced robberies this one has it over all others. A hungry looking man applied at the Glunt home to sweep chimneys, but there was no work and he left. When the family opened the icebox for dinner it was cleaned out. Chief Ridley caught the thief.
