There must be something in the water at the City Looks Salon in Baxter. That's owner Mindy Blegen's theory after she had twins Griffin and Carson three months ago. That was followed a month later by stylist Becky Christensen having twins. Now, four other City Looks employees are pregnant, with due dates from September to December.
30 years ago (1991)
They should have called it “Anna Ratzloff Day” at the state Class AA track meet. The Little Falls senior won three individual titles and helped the Flyers finish in a tie for third. She defended her title in the 100 hurdles, where she set the all-time state record last year, defended her title in the 300 hurdles and won the 200-meter dash.

40 years ago (1981)
A Cokato woman, 37, who had threatened to ignite a can of gasoline in the Blue Ox fertilizer plant south of Brainerd last year, has pleaded guilty to simple robbery. She used the threat to steal the car of the plant manager, who was forced to turn over his keys to prevent her carrying out the threat.
60 years ago (1961)
Area contractors and the bricklayers union are no closer to a settlement of their dispute over wages resulting in over 200 men walking off their jobs yesterday. The wage is currently $4.00 an hour, with the union asking for 13 cents more this year and another 13 cents next year, plus two 10-minute coffee breaks. Contractors offer seven cents and eight cents.
80 years ago (1941)
The American Legion convention at Staples had a carnival attached, and one of the attractions was a boxing exhibition where you could take on the carnival's heavyweight or 147-pounder. Art Attleson, local Golden Glove bantamweight champ, took on the lighter man and beat him three times in four days. Great training, he said.
100 years ago (1921)
The first regular band concert on Wednesday evening was held at Lum Park and a fine concert was given. There were acres of cars in the park and everyone enjoyed the music. The band was under the direction of William Palmer and they interpreted both classical and popular music with rare facility.
