The city council has approved a request from the union representing Potlatch employees for office space after the mill closes in May. The union requested the space so employees had a place to come for information, services and counseling. The agreement will run for 60 days and is renewable.

The 7th grade enriched math team at Franklin Junior High recently placed sixth in the nation in a segment of the Junior High Math League. After four segments the group, coached by Lowell Scearcy, ranks second in Minnesota. Jay Imsande and Bill Ewell both rank in the top 100 math students in the nation.
60 years ago (1962)
The sheriff's office reported a new twist in stealing gasoline this weekend. A car was driven from the owners yard in Pine Center, then run into a ditch, where all the gasoline was drained from it. A truck parked in that same owners yard also had its gas tank drained. Neither vehicle was damaged.
80 years ago (1942)
Police today began their annual spring drive against youths riding bicycles on sidewalks after a 5-year-old girl was hurt after being hit by a bike yesterday. She was knocked to the ground and suffered a severe cut to her mouth. Police warned that violators will be prosecuted.
100 years ago (1922)
The inquest into the death of Brainerd's Ed Jenest, shot while trying to rob the Gleason Grocery Store in Grand Forks, brings new details to light. It seems assured that he was the same man who robbed that store of $100 a year ago and got away. A Fargo man held up and robbed a week ago says it was the same man who robbed him last year, and was Jenest.

37/46: This truck belonged to Silas Hall's Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street). He launched a kite at 3 p.m. yesterday near the court house and it's still flying despite a near disaster when a truck caught the kite string. The weatherman says it will remain windy today.
