Forty years ago they were the toast of Minnesota. On March 27, 1954, the Warriors left Williams Arena with the state championship trophy. Last week, seven of the players and both coaches gathered at the Washington gym to raise their trophy once again.

A car stolen from People’s Auto in Brainerd two weeks ago was found was found abandoned in a building at the former BN Railroad shops. Police said the building owner found the car, which had been heavily damaged, yesterday.

A committee of the Brainerd school board approved bidding for the removal of Wright Park hill for use as dirt fill for the lower site project. Architect Jim McNutt estimates this will cover about half of the 500,000 cubic yards of fill needed for the entire project.
60 years ago (1954)
The Warrior bench was every bit as strong as fans have known it, and that played a big part in the thrilling 56-55 victory over Red Wing in the opening round of the state tourney. Jim Guin, Ken Wasnie and Jon Jelacic out-rebounded the taller opponents.

Tommy Carroll, who escaped in Minneapolis after being arrested for the Brainerd bank robbery in October, has been identified as one of a gang who escaped with $46,000 from a Sioux Falls bank after shooting a policeman. With him was “Baby Face” Nelson.

Manager Peterson had planned on some early spring training for the Brainerd baseball team and trying out of recruits. But snowfall of the past few days, though splendid for the coming crops, was not conducive to good ball play and sliding into bases.
