Matt Ostrowski kept a Warrior wrestling streak alive when he finished 4th at 125 pounds in the state Class AA tournament. His finish marked the seventh consecutive season that a Brainerd wrestler has placed in state individual competition.

30 years ago (1984)

The county board took the first step toward an ambitious county-wide fire dispatching system – but not before Commissioner Mary Koep charged that equipment specs for the $200,000 project illegally circumvented the competitive bidding laws.

40 years ago (1974)

After four years of postponements, setbacks and controversy among residents of Sibley Township, Charlie Peterson won county planning approval for a proposed tavern on May Lake Road. Peterson, of Pequot Lakes, wants to run a combination tavern-restaurant.

60 years ago (1954)

Underdog Little Falls, employing a tight zone defense in the first half, gave top seeded Brainerd a real scare in their first District 24 game. But the Warriors, who trailed 28-21 at the half, rebounded for a 65-44 win. They play next against Sebeka at Staples.

80 years ago (1934)

William Dammann, in his fourth year as Warrior basketball coach, has rung up an enviable record of 116 wins and 15 losses. Brainerd, with a district record of 9-1, takes on Little Falls, 0-10, in the opening round of District 24 tournament play.

100 years ago (1914)

Five men were arraigned before Judge Warner today for the thefts of a wagon, flour and feed two days ago. Earl Dennis, driving a 50 HP, 1,500 pound Cadillac truck and climbing hills never before covered and crossing Gull Lake, had tracked the men down.
