The Warrior baseball team tasted defeat for the first time this season when they lost to Rosemount 7-5 at Don Adamson Field. Earlier, Brainerd, ranked 10th in the state, had picked up its 14th straight win when Chris Staples pitched a one-hit shutout, 2-0, over Cambridge.

A thief with a penchant for the bizarre took a female mannequin from in front of the Timberline Trading Post in Merrifield, according to Kay Churchill, manager. They propose to run an ad: “To whom it may concern - please bring our mannequin back. She’s my mother-in-law.”

(1974) (Photo) John Sullivan, Brainerd, received a plaque and gavel honoring him for his two years service as president of the Minnesota Timber Producers Assn. Sullivan received the award at the annual banquet in Duluth, attended by over 500 members and guests.
60 years ago (1954)
All six schools competed for the first time in years and the Brainerd track team retained its Central Six conference title at St. Cloud. Coach Bob Miller’s Warriors took firsts in six of the 13 events for 68.5 points and their fourth straight conference title.

Rare presence of mind saved Paul Capistrant, local plumber, from injury and possible death. While digging a sewer ditch at a home on S. 6th Street, the walls of the ditch caved in, trapping him. He managed to cup his hands before his face, giving him breathing room until he was dug out.
100 years ago (1914)
The Schlange cigar firm is getting out a new cigar, to be called the “Brainerd Chamber of Commerce,” to signalize the beginning of this new institution in Brainerd life. Mr. Schlange assures that the cigar will make as big a hit as its namesake.
