20 years ago (2002)

30 years ago (1992)

Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for John Cluever. In the Friday Night Mixed League at Paul Bunyan Bowl he rolled a perfect 300 game, the first such this season in Brainerd. He joins an elite group that includes Curly Olson, Lyle Niemeyer, Norm Ramsdell and Dan Lind.

40 years ago (1982)

With last year's “in the presence of” (alcohol) legal battle firmly in mind, a school board committee once again explored establishing a group to handle appeals by students charged with athletic eligibility violations. The group will have school faculty and parents or community members, but will not have a student member.

60 years ago (1962)

80 years ago (1942)

Brainerd housewives who did not lay in a supply of coffee Nov. 21 will have to go without this commodity for a week. When coffee is restored to retail sales on Nov. 29, it will be on the ration lists and you will purchase it beginning with Stamp No. 27 in your sugar ration book.

100 years ago (1922)

A business transaction of some magnitude was completed yesterday when W.E. McMahon purchased the 25-foot lot to the south of the Dispatch building for $240 per front foot. While he draws up plans for a new two-story building, he will use the current building for a solid silver tea and lunch room to be called the Twin Lanterns.
