Seven years after the disappearance of Charlotte Lysdale, authorities dug up the yard of a Pine River day care center after receiving an anonymous tip that her body was buried there. Cass County Sheriff Jim Dowson said nothing conclusive was found.

30 years ago (1982)

The city of Brainerd is breaking the law. Or, at the very least it’s ignoring it. That’s the opinion of Daryl Bahma, Brainerd Fire Department engineer. He claims the city’s delay in appointing a new fire chief is playing politics with civil service statutes.

40 years ago (1972)

The sheriff’s office is looking for cattle rustling thieves who struck twice over the weekend. George Wetherbee, Route 3, discovered a 400-pound Shorthorn was shot and the hind quarters taken. Peter Thesing, Route 4, lost a steer in the same manner.

60 years ago (1952)

Crow Wing County joined the ranks of the nation’s voters in giving Gen. Dwight Eisenhower a majority vote for president. Gov. C. Elmer Anderson of Nisswa had a large margin over Orville Freeman. The representative from District 53 was too close to call.

80 years ago (1932)

Clarence “Biggie” Munn, Minnesota’s famous All-American guard of 1931, was accompanied by Nels Thorpe, the university swim coach on a duck hunting trip to Leech Lake. Thorpe knows this area, being swim instructor at Camp Lincoln for boys on Lake Hubert.

100 years ago (1912)

(Adv.) Prof. Colvin will give double drawing tickets for the $20 in gold to be given away at the dance Thanksgiving Day. These tickets will be given every Friday night to those attending the dances at the auditorium. Extra ticket for those using the coat check room.
