30 years ago (1983)

Awesome. There isn’t a better adjective to describe Brainerd Community College’s defensive unit in a 14-7 triumph over Vermillion for the Northern Division championship. The Raiders limited them to 92 total yards and four first downs.

40 years ago (1973)

Two armed men, one of them the accused killer of two persons near Agate Lake, escaped from the Wadena County jail after shooting a sheriff’s dispatcher. The escape was at 8:15 p.m. using a handgun smuggled in during visiting hours by the killer’s girl friend.

60 years ago (1953)

If the $1.9 million school bond issue is approved next Tuesday, construction of the new schools will be spread out over at least 2.5 years. School board members, in a statement today, said this would keep as much of the construction employment local as possible.

80 years ago (1933)

Hans Pilarski, a farmer in Platte Lake Township, found a wounded hunter in his haystack. The man, who had been there two days and nights, appeared to have been shot in both legs, probably with a rifle. Men, who wouldn’t give their names, came to take him away.
