Resort owners may get the chance to receive up to a $10,000 matching grant from the state to replace septic systems on their properties. The program is funded by lottery proceeds and cigarette taxes. Twenty resorters met at Cragun’s to go over program rules.

30 years ago (1982)

Mankato State’s Steve Stoxen, a former Brainerd High School hockey player and golfer, recently took medalist honors in the North Central Conference golf tournament at Sioux Falls. Stoxen, a sophomore, won the title with a 45-hole score of 190.

40 years ago (1972)

(Photo) Terry Whirley shot his first deer with a bow and arrow Saturday at Camp Ripley and it was a big one, dressing out at 227 pounds. Whirley dropped it with one arrow to the heart. Hunting with him was Dan Kunde.

60 years ago (1952)

(Photo) Alfred Meyers and Charles Cibuzar, both of the Brainerd lodge of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, present large, framed plaques of the Ten Commandments to Supt. of Schools Harold Nordgaard and Father Thomas Scott. A copy will go to each school in Brainerd.

80 years ago (1932)

Doctors and hospitals were being checked by Cass and Crow Wing authorities searching for a man believed wounded when he was fired upon while trying to steal a slot machine. Art Anderson of the Wiggle Inn fired his shotgun and the man dropped the machine and fled.

100 years ago (1912)

Motoring from Minneapolis recently were Joseph Midgely, Mrs. George Forsyth, Mrs. G. L. Forsyth and their guest, Miss Susie Benjamin. They were occupying a new six cylinder, 50 horsepower Mitchell car.
