The planned expansion of the Brainerd Mall is a step closer after a special Brainerd council meeting adopted a resolution to issue $10 million in bonds. The money will refurbish the current 177,000 square feet and add an additional 130,000 square feet.

The Brainerd area’s October “heat wave” seems to be at an end as tonight’s low will hit 40 and the high tomorrow will be 50. The last ten days have seen every day over 70 degrees, with the highs registered at 81 on Oct. 15 and 82 on Oct. 20.

Brainerd hunters today launched into the third of the fall hunting seasons, this being for pheasants. Many hunters headed south, but there are reports of vast flocks in this area. Hunters may take three per day, with one being a hen, and have six in possession.
100 years ago (1913)
Brainerd-born Charles Albert “Chief” Bender, star pitcher of the Philadelphia Athletics, will be one representative of the White Earth Chippewa band to visit Washington, DC. The other is Ed Rogers, chief of the tribe and an All-Western end at Minnesota in 1902.
