A Nisswa grocery store has been disqualified from the Federal Food Stamp Program for six months because they accepted food stamps for ineligible items. Evidence showed such items as laundry detergent, trash bags, aluminum foil and beer.

The $650,000 received by the Brainerd School District from gross earnings funds will be invested for 10 years, with 10 percent withdrawn each year to pay down debt. The money became controversial when it was discussed by the board at a secret meeting last year.

The quick thinking of resort owner Mrs. Hugo Larson saved the lives of two Brainerd men on Heron Lake. While reading to her daughter she heard cries for help. She ran to a resort boat and raced to the sinking fishermen’s boat, pulling both men to safety.

Anxiety growing out of the three-day absence and silence of Roy Dugan, barnstorming pilot, and his wife who left Brainerd airport for McGrath, ended today when the Dispatch Newshawk airplane, with Al Jackson at the controls, found them safe at Rutledge.
