It appears that Brainerd's Todd Revenig is close to getting a big league chance with the Oakland Athletics. He completed a prosperous second season with Huntsville of the AA Southern League, pitching to a 0.98 ERA on just two earned runs in 18.5 innings.

Brainerd School District's administrative gavel passed into new hands last night, as 17-year superintendent Elliot Whoolery stepped down and was presented Brainerd's Tower Award by C. Elmer Anderson. Bob Gross takes over as new superintendent.

40 years ago (1971)

An armed gunman made off with $3,000 in cash and checks from the accounting office at Madden's Inn & Golf Club. Bob Benson, asst. manager, was unlocking at 6:30 a.m. when a gun was stuck in his ribs. After opening the safe the gunman slugged him and escaped.

 

60 years ago (1951)

First bowling action of the new season will begin next week at Lake Region Lanes on Front Street. Men's action in four leagues will be held on Monday through Wednesday nights. Women's leagues will compete on Thursday and Friday nights.

The search for Alice Edwards, 14-year-old Brainerd girl, shifted to Minneapolis today. A truck driver, who found her roller skating on Highway 27, gave her a lift to Minneapolis as requested. She then asked him to return her roller skates to her parents, which he did.

 

100 years ago (1911)

Street employees have taken up some of the remains of the prehistoric street railway, which at one time in the history of the city extended south on Sixth Street. It was a large section of beam, well preserved and resting in the middle of the street.
