With another record enrollment, Brainerd Community College has added seven new employees for the 1993-94 school year: Sandra Kaplan, Paul Findorff, Dennis Eastman, Michael Turnbull, Michelle Kangas, Karen Mertes and Patrick Spradlin.

Nearly 500 people braved blustery conditions to attend the re-dedication of the Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport. Because of strong winds, the hot air balloon demonstration was cancelled and the skywriter’s smoky script quickly dissipated.

Roy and Ceil Gorman, netting a 145 for 18 holes, claimed the Couples Golf Tournament by a single stroke at Brainerd Country Club. Runner-up honors at 146 went to Dick and Shirley Knudsen, and third place to Cliff and Laverne Johnson at 147.

Melford Kurz, chair of the council’s finance committee, released the proposed 1954 Brainerd city budget to be presented to the full council. Estimated receipts are $302,000 plus a carryover balance from 1953 of $40,000. Expenses are estimated at $310,000.

The Minn. State Conservation Commission has added encouragement to the possibility of raising the water level of Pelican Lake through diverting water from Crosslake. A delegation from Crow Wing County led by J.F. Cibuzar appeared before the commission.

Deputy Sheriff Claus Theorin went to Jenkins to get a crazy man, but when he arrived there he found that the deranged individual had been permitted to walk away from the depot. Theorin went north to Pine River but found no trace of the man.
