Bill Israelson, pro at Terrace Golf Club in Staples, fired a final round 69 to repeat as Minnesota PGA champion at Izaty’s Golf Club. His 74-69 total of 143 was one under par, beating Kevin Cashman, pro at The Pines at Grand View Lodge, by one stroke.

Two out-of-state motorcyclists were killed at BIR on Saturday morning as their bikes collided during warm-up laps. The deaths bring to four the number of racers killed in the last three weeks. One cycle was headed to the pits when struck by the other at 140 mph.

Two Crosslake area nightclubs were broken into over the Labor Day weekend. Thieves took four cases of liquor and $250 from Moonlight Bay. Thieves who broke into the Manhattan Club got $47 in cash.

City Engineer Peacock submitted to the council his estimate for repairs to the East Brainerd bridge, coming to $2,120. Its original cost was $16,000. Pedestrians in Northeast were in a sad way, having to walk through the cemetery to downtown.
