Sons of Norway schedule April meeting

BAXTER-The Sons of Norway Sagatun Lodge will have its April social meeting by "going on the road" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Northern Lakes Senior Living Apartments Community Room, 8186 Excelsior Road, Baxter. Special signage will direct members and visitors to meeting area.

The program will feature Peggy Larson, a well-known singer, choir director and vocal teacher from the Twin Cities who specializes in "kulokk," a vocal tradition in Norway where young girls would communicate with cattle herds with musical class that could be heard up to 2 miles. Larson has conducted workshops and given talks worldwide on "kulokk."

WHS class of 1954 meeting planned

The Washington High School class of 1954 will meet 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Grizzly's.

The Washington High School class of 1965 will meet for lunch 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 16, at The Fort.

Welcome back snowbirds party

BACKUS-The Backus American Legion will have its 15th annual Welcome Back Snowbirds, Frozen Survivors and Customer Appreciation Party Saturday, April 25.

This year's theme is "Enjoy Yourself" and includes the 10th anniversary show of the post's Usual Suspects Theater Co., complimentary food and door prizes and a 10-round meat raffle.

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Musical comedy by the Usual Suspects Theater Co. is at 5:30 p.m. The meat raffle features five prizes a round for a $1 ticket. Following the event, at 9 p.m., there will be complimentary cash and customer drawings.

Spaghetti dinner planned

The public is invited to attend an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Brainerd Elks Lodge, 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd.

Cost: $8. All proceeds go to support the Antlers program.

The Captain Robert Orr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Sawmill Inn, Brainerd.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events announced

On Monday, April 16, the Gambling Oversight Committee will meet at 6 p.m. The Executive Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. The Auxiliary Membership meeting will be at 7 p.m. The Post Membership meeting will be at 7:25 p.m.

The special dinner for Friday, April 20, will be Bob Harting's BBQ ribs for $11. Walleye dinner is also available for $11. Serving begins at 5 p.m.

Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary meeting planned

The monthly meeting for the DAV and DAVA Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 will be 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Brainerd VFW Club.

Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Nisswa Women's Club monthly meeting set for Thursday

The Nisswa Women's Club will hold their monthly meeting Thursday, April 19, at Drummond Wine Co., on Thiesse Road in Brainerd.

Social time will begin 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at noon.

The program will be "Enjoying the Value of Medicinal Herbs" presented by JoAnn Weaver, University of Minnesota Extension, Crow Wing County Master Gardener.

The hostesses are Dolly Zitur, Diane Eitrheim, Pat Heinen, Sharon Ingvoldstad and Collette Wagner. The inspirational will be presented by Vicki Smith.

Brainerd Chapter No. 738 NAARFE to meet

The Brainerd Chapter No. 738 National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet for social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon Wednesday, April 18, at the Skillet Restaurant, 123 Washington St. NE, Brainerd, five blocks east of the old water tower.

Presentation will be by Tina Elder from TRIAD, composed of law enforcement, senior citizens and community as a whole.

Senior dances

Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Brainerd Blue Room with music by Joe, Rose and Henry; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Deerwood Legion with music by Andy and Stu.

DAV and DAVA annual appreciation dinner planned

The Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22 of the Disabled American Veterans and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary will have the annual appreciation dinner Friday, April 20, at the Brainerd VFW.

Social hour will be at 5 p.m. with a surf and turf dinner at 6 p.m.

Brainerd Area Retired Educators meeting set

BAXTER-The Brainerd Area Retired Educators will meet for a noon luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Monday, April 16, at Prairie Bay Restaurant in Baxter.

Speaker will be Dawn Nelson, Americorps/Vista offerings at The Center in Brainerd.
