Mission Fire Fair fundraiser set for July 15

The 30th annual Mission Fire Fair will be 11:30 a.m. July 15 at Mission Park, located 7 miles north of Merrifield on County Road 3, one mile east on Mission Park Drive.

There will be face painting, games, fire department demonstrations, a safe house and the North Air helicopter display, roast pork dinner. There will be games, a silent auction, door prizes and raffles. Sponsored by the Mission Township Firefighters Relief Association.

Any and all monetary donations are greatly appreciated to Mission Fire Relief Association.

Backus Legion July events announced

BACKUS-A pig roast and corn feed, bean bag tournament, dancing and dining and a flea market are featured during the Backus American Legion's July Fun calendar of events.

The 13th annual all-you-can eat pig roast and corn feed will run from 4:30 p.m. until gone July 15.

It includes pork-on-a-bun, sweet corn and potato salad for $10 a plate. A bean bag tourney starts at 2 p.m. with registration at 1:30 p.m. Entry fee is $10 for a two-person team with 100 percent plus payback in prizes.

The Frankie Lamb Band, playing classic country, pop, old time and swing, appears July 16 from 2-5 p.m. That's followed by a Wild Clovers 4-H Club benefit oven-fried chicken dinner from 5 p.m. until gone for $8 a person.

A flea market will be held at the Legion from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29 noon to 3 p.m. July 30. Vendors are welcome for a charge of $10 a table. Contact Kathy at brunokathy0@gmail.com . Event information available on backuslegion.com or call 218-947-3156.

The featured program this month is "Living Our Dream: What We've Learned Teaching and Owning Jean's ---The Right Plant Place" presented by Julie Schroer and Jodie Ramsay, owners.

This month's hostesses are Vickie Reph, Betty Arveson, Mary Gibson, Joannie Muehlbauer and Becky Stover. The inspirational will be read by Eunice Wiebolt.

NISSWA-The Nisswa Garden Club will present "A Festival of Tables," unique and lively themed tables, complete with dishes, floral designs and accessories, available to the public and free of charge from 10 a.m. to noon July 27 at Lutheran Church of the Cross on County Road 13.

Scholarships awarded

The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to Elizabeth Sobania and Jakob Ebinger, recent graduates of Brainerd High School.

These scholarships were awarded based on essays regarding the impact of reading on their lives.

The Friends are a nonprofit group that provides advocacy and resources to enhance the programs and materials at the Brainerd Library.

194th Regiment to meet

Members and guests of the 194th Regiment will meet 10 a.m. Monday in the Regimental Room at the Brainerd National Guard Armory.

The group will discuss outcomes of Brainerd History Week program and upcoming Wounded Warrior Fundraiser.

Hackensack Legion Auxiliary No. 202 to serve breakfast

HACKENSACK-Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202 will serve breakfast from 8:30-11:30 a.m. July 16 at the Club.

Cost is $6. The proceeds go to support youth scholarships.

Senior dances

Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at Motley Ten-Hi with music by Frank and Fran; from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Waukenabo with music by Jerry's Dance Band; and at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Little Falls Senior Center with music by Jerry's Dance Band.

Washington High School class of 1951 to meet

The Washington High School class of 1951 will have its annual gathering beginning noon Monday at the Brainerd American Legion, 708 Front St., Brainerd.

Classmates, spouses and friends are invited to attend.
