Kayla Griffith health benefit planned for June 17

CUYUNA-The Kayla Griffith health benefit spaghetti dinner and silent auction will be from 2-5 p.m. June 17 at the Woodtick Inn in Cuyuna.

Griffith has developed a hereditary condition called Barrett's Esophagus, a precancerous condition of the canal that connects the throat and stomach. In addition to worsening acid reflux, hernias and esophageal damage, she has developed GERD and is in need of surgery.

Alpha Chapter No. 23 Order of the Eastern Star to meet

Alpha Chapter No. 23 OES will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Masonic Center, 205 1/2 S. Sixth St., Brainerd, with Herman Bradley serving his chicken noodle soup for dinner at 6 p.m.

Program will be fathers growing tomatoes. Dress will be garden clothes. Coffee will be served after the meeting by Jean Mahling.

HACKENSACK-Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary Unit 202 will serve breakfast from 8:30-11:30 a.m. June 18 at the Club.

Cost: $6. The proceeds go to support youth scholarships.

Flag Day ceremony and community picnic planned

Good Samaritan Society will host a ceremony honoring the flag at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the GSS-Woodland campus at 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd.

The 14th annual dedication service will feature special music and a 21-gun salute. The community is invited to stay for a free picnic meal and live music following the ceremony. The ceremony will be held rain or shine.

Woodland Auxiliary to meet

The GSS-Woodland Auxiliary will meet 1 p.m. Thursday in the 200 Dining Room of Woodland Good Samaritan, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd.

Members and guests will meet 10 a.m. Monday at the Brainerd Armory. They will help review, plan and prepare for the 194th Regiment's day planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday during Brainerd's History Week.

Good Sam Jam set for Thursday

The Good Sam Jam will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Dennis Drummond Winery, located at Highway 25 and Thiesse Road in Brainerd.

The Jam will celebrate another successful Good Sam Bowl with four bands, cake and coffee. It will be a freewill offering. Refreshments and food available at the Bistro.

Baxter Lions Club meeting planned for Monday

The Baxter Lions Club will meet Monday at Camp Vanasek with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the regular meeting will be called to order at 7 p.m.

The reigning Little Miss Brainerd, United States 2017, will be speaking about her pageant platform to the Baxter Lions Club-Helping Homelessness. The Club's scholarship recipients will also be in attendance.

Ruby's Pantry food outreach is Tuesday

Ruby's Pantry is a mission outreach where participants give a cash donation of $20 to cover expenses of the program and in return receive corporate surplus food. The variety and amount varies each month. Participants need to bring containers to carry their food home. No income guidelines. Ruby's Pantry will be at the National Guard Armory on Wright Street in Brainerd the second Tuesday of each month.

The next distribution is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday with doors opening at 11 a.m. For minimum wait, arrive at noon.

Senior dances

Senior dances will be from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday at the Motley Ten-Hi with music by Marie and The Boys; from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Waukenabo with music by Marie and Fran; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by Chmielewski and LeRoy.
