■ Benefit for the Jody and Crystal Skiba family

There will be a benefit for the Jody and Crystal (Starr) Skiba family on March 29 at the Bulldog Lake Youth Center, located 12 miles north of Hillman on County Road 8. The spaghetti supper will be from 4:30-7 p.m. with a live auction beginning at 7:30 p.m. Music will be provided by RS Entertainment. There will be a silent auction, games for all ages and a bake sale.

On Dec. 12, 2013, the Skibas’ barn burned. It was a total loss of the building, animals, hay and straw. They want to rebuild and continue farming.

BAXTER - Royce Nelson will call the March 21 dance for Ray’s Promenaders at the Baxter Elementary School cafeteria. Plus begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by mainstream at 8 p.m. Theme for the evening is sports wear. The potluck that follows the dance will be hosted by the Seglers.

■ Sons of Norway Sagatun Lodge 018

The Sons of Norway will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brainerd.

A speaker will be sharing information on Norway House. Norway House will be a bridge to contemporary Norway and will be built in Minneapolis.

■ Women’s cancer
support group

CROSBY - Cuyuna Regional Medical Center is hosting a Women’s Cancer Support Group from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday in its Ambulatory Services Conference Room located at 320 East Main Street in Crosby.

The group is open to women who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment and post treatment. It is an opportunity to share and support one another, to listen and learn.

The Pequot Lakes High School’s 7th bi-annual Relay for Life will be during the school day on April 25 from 8:20 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

■ Nisswa Women’s Club
to meet

BAXTER - The Nisswa Women’s Club will meet Thursday beginning with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon with the program to follow. The event will be held at Arrowwood Lodge, located at 6967 Lake Forest Road in Baxter.

A reminder to our members that we will be collecting for the Lakes Area Food Shelf at this meeting. Non-perishable food items or a monetary donation will be accepted and appreciated.

The program will be “The Hottest Interior Design Fashions In Your Home” presented by Julie Gowen, owner and designer of J.A.G. Interior Solutions. Becky Stover will share the inspirational. Hostesses for the meeting will be Carol Christofferson, Jane Myhra, Bev Siemens, Suzanne Sundquist and Rosemary Whitman.

The 20th annual Scandinavian Frokost (an authentic breakfast smorgasbord) will be April 5 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, east Brainerd. The smorgasbord features rommegrot, lefse, rice pudding, meat/cheese/vegetables to build your own sandwiches on homemade breads and more. ■ Weight loss seminars planned in the area

A free, informational seminar about weight loss surgery will be offered by Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIMIS) surgeons and health professionals from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Heartwood Senior Living Community, located at 500 Heartwood Drive in Crosby, and from 6-8 p.m. March 27 at Country Inn and Suites, 15058 Dellwood Drive, Baxter.

■ Firearm safety class planned

A firearm safety class will begin April 9 at the Brainerd Eagles Club. Class will be from 6-9 p.m. for six weeks on Wednesdays except the first night class will start at 5:30 p.m. Adults are welcome to take the class. Call the Eagles or Paul Laughton to pre-register. Students must be 11. Registration will be open until class is full but class fills quickly.

■ Senior dances

Senior dances will be 1-4 p.m. Wednesday in the Brainerd Blue Room with music by Jerry’s Dance Band; from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Deerwood Legion with music by the Country Ramblers; 3 p.m. Friday at the Little Falls Lutheran Care Center with music by Jerry B.; from 1-5 p.m. March 23 at the Little Falls Ballroom with music by the Jolly Brewers; and from 1-4 p.m. March 25 at the Motley Ten-Hi with music by Jerry’s Dance Band.

■ Brainerd Area Low Vision Support Group

The Brainerd Area Low Vision Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Good Samaritan Village, 200 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd. Dr. David I. Spring Open

Downtown Golf Spring Open is April 5. All proceeds go to Kinship Partners. Final party is at 6 p.m. at the American Legion. There’s a $5 green fee. Prizes for eighth, 80th and 108th places. Prize for the best costume as well. No golf equipment needed.

■ GirlSports Field
Day planned

The Girl Scouts will have a GirlSports Field Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 22 at the Central Lakes College gymnasium in Brainerd. For grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Cost: $20 for Girl Scouts; $35 for non-Girl Scout (includes $15 Girl Scout membership fee). Adults are free. Wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes for sports. Bring a sandwich for lunch.
