Crow Wing County Genealogical Society to meet Thursday

The Crow Wing County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Family History Center, 101 Buffalo Hills Lane, Brainerd.

Program: Laura Hall will speak about Genealogy Research materials provided by local libraries. Social hour will be from 6-7 p.m., and a program and meeting to follow.

Class of 1955 picnic planned

The C-I Class of 1955 will have a potluck picnic June 6 at Jean Taylor Tidhomme's home near Bay Lake. All class members, friends and visitors are welcome.

Picnic starts at 1 p.m. and eating at 2 p.m.

Brainerd Legion upcoming events announced

Venture Crew will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Auxiliary will host a soup and sandwich fundraiser luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday with a choice of tomato basil or chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese or ham sandwich for $6.

Funds raised will go to purchase patriotism comic books to place in 550 third grade classrooms in the Brainerd/Baxter area. Cash donations for this project would be greatly appreciated.

On Friday, the special dinner will be Bob Harting's rib dinner for $11. Walleye is also available for $11. Serving begins at 5 p.m.

Nisswa Garden Club to meet for annual spring garden party

NISSWA-The Nisswa Garden Club will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Treehouse. Note the change in time and location for this meeting.

The program, the annual Spring Garden Party-Showing of New Plants will be presented by Jim Sherwood and Curt Lindelof from The Treehouse. Coordinators are Jill Macnamara, Betty Ramsbacher, Doreen Mahoney and Ann Bertrand.

Women's cancer support group set

CROSBY-Registered Dietitian Heather Erickson will speak about clean eating and how fruits, vegetables and whole foods can improve overall health from 2-3:30 p.m. June 8 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center's Women's Cancer Support Group in the hospital's Ambulatory Services Conference Room.

The group is open to women who are newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment and post treatment. It is an opportunity to share experiences and support one another, to listen and learn. A new topic is discussed each month and refreshments are served.

Registration is not required and there is no cost to attend. Groups are scheduled the second Thursday of each month.

Golf tournament planned for scholarship fund

WALKER-A four-person scramble golf tournament to raise money for Cass County youths exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair will be June 11 at Tianna Country Club at Walker.

The tournament is open to 22 teams and features a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee is $55 a person. All proceeds will go to pay expenses for Cass County youths who will be exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair. Deadline for entries is June 7.

Cash and other prizes will be awarded to teams with the lowest scores and individuals for closest-to-the-pin drives and longest putts. The awards and door prizes will be presented following the tournament at a reception and complimentary lunch for players and sponsors at Tianna.

Entry forms for the Friends of Youth Benefit Golf Tournament are available at the Backus Corner Store, Bjerga's Feed Store, the Backus and Hackensack American Legions and Tianna or downloaded from the web site backuslegion.com. Hole sponsors at a minimum of $50 a hole are also being sought to support the event. Donations are welcome as well. Teams, sponsors and other donors should make checks payable to the Friends of Youth Scholarship Fund.

All class reunion planned

BACKUS-Plans are being made for the seventh annual all class reunion for the Backus Area Old Timers on May 27. Activities begin at 11 a.m. at the Backus City Hall. Lunch may be purchased for $5. A meat raffle is scheduled for May 26 at the Backus American Legion and a dance with Frankie Lamb providing music on May 28 from 2-6 p.m. at the Legion.

Wadena Whirlaways to host dance

WADENA-The Wadena Whirlaways Square Dancers will host a dance Thursday at the Wadena VFW in Wadena.

Tom Jacobs is the caller and the cuer is Donna Stone. The theme is Memorial Day. Plus dancing begins at 7:30 p.m. and mainstream dancing at 8 p.m.

WHS class of 1957 luncheon meeting planned

The Washington High School class of 1957 will have a class luncheon at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Northwind Grille.

The Brainerd Area Art Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evelyn Matthies Studio in the Franklin Arts Center, Brainerd.
