The Brainerd Dispatch sports department earned first place for sports reporting in the 2018-19 Better Newspaper Contest.
The award recognized sports reporting among dailies with a circulation over 10,000 entered in the contest, run by the Minnesota Newspaper Association. The contest period is September 2018 through August 2019.
Sports department staff during that time include former Sports Editor Mike Bialka, current Sports Editor Jeremy Millsop, Sports Writer Conrad Engstrom, and part-time sports writers Michael Aulie, Joe Lindholm, Maren Goff and Taylor Dullinger.
