Writers conference and book fair
Brainerd Writers Alliance will host its annual writers conference and book fair, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27, Rumbly Hall, 707 Laurel St. Cost for the conference is $25 and includes a buffet lunch. 'A Christmas Carol'
Auditions for Stage North Theatre Company's holiday production of "A Christmas Carol," 7 p.m. Fridayand at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Franklin Arts Center.
Author Frank Weber of "The I-94 Murders" book launch event, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, with an author presentation at 5:30 p.m., The Crossing Arts Alliance; free.
Zorongo will perform a children's puppet show titled "Tra Ti Ti Tran Tran Toro," 6 p.m. Oct. 29, Brainerd Public Library; free.
The Uff Da players from The Center in Brainerd will perform a comedy titled "Pretty Good Cafe," 5 p.m. Monday, Kicks on Route 66. Organizers are asking for a $15 donation for admission. Make a reservation by calling 218-692-5425.
"The Haunted Hallows of Crosslake where things went horribly, horribly wrong," 6 p.m. and then will be repeated every 30 minutes until 9:30 p.m., Oct. 18-20 and Oct. 26- 27, Crosslake Historic Log Village. Gate admission is $12. Tickets for children 10 years and younger is $7.

Wadena County Historical Society's annual business meeting where Adam Regn Arvidson will talk about his new book, "Wild and Rare: Tracking Endangered Species in the Upper Midwest," 6 p.m. Oct. 19, Maasconi's Char and Bar in Verndale. Before the meeting at 5:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity to purchase dinner off the menu.
