WADENA — The deadline for area poets to submit original poetry for Minnesota Voices is still April 1.
About 10-15 poems will be selected by the panel to be read at noon April 16 at the Wadena County Museum as part of National Poetry Month.
The guidelines for submission are:
Poems must be written by the person;
The poem cannot be more than 30 lines;
The poem may be in any form — rhymed, free verse, prose, rap and other;
The poem may have been previously published.
Submissions must include name, address, email, title of the poem and the complete text of the poem. Submissions must be postmarked or received by April 1 to be eligible. Poets selected will be notified April 5. Submit via email to email@example.com or mail to Wadena County Historical Society, 603 Jefferson St. N., Wadena, MN 56482.
A person is not required to be present in order to read their poem, if selected. They may elect to have the poem read by a member of the panel. Poets should indicate whether they will be present to read the poem on April 16.
Minnesota Voices is a free program featuring Minnesota writers and their work. The group meets the third Thursday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. For more information contact the Wadena County Historical Society.
Due to the current health crisis, there may not be a public reading but a booklet of the poems will be made available, a news release stated. Organizers may find a way to read the poems on air or online.
