The USDA Forest Service, with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe as a cooperating agency, is proposing to restore fire-dependent ecosystems and associated wildlife habitat and cultural resources and uses throughout a portion of the Chippewa National Forest.
Campfires and charcoal grills permitted
Campfires permitted ONLY in Forest Service provided fire rings within specific developed campgrounds, Forest Service permitted resorts, recreation residences, and organizational camps.
The restrictions will be in effect starting June 17, 2021 and will remain in effect until rescinded.
The order is being lifted in accordance with the state of Minnesota guidelines that went into effect on May 7. The removal of limiting group size includes outdoor events, gatherings, recreation activities and group campsites in the national forest.
Columns of smoke may be visible from long distances, including Cass Lake, Walker, and the Highway 371 and Highway 2 corridors.

The Chippewa Resource Advisory Committee is seeking public proposals to invest approximately $350,000 of accumulated funds authorized by the Secure Rural Schools Act of 2015.
Permits also still available at local ranger stations.
The basic interview lasts around eight minutes, and about half of the interviews include additional questions lasting about five additional minutes.
