(Published in the Brainerd Dispatch October 19, 2022, 1t.) Workplace Session Meeting Minutes Pillager School District 116 Tuesday, October 11th, 2022 at 5:30pm in the District Office Board Room. Board Members Becky Bennett, Sara Nagel, Brian Grimsley, Kassandra Nelson, Randy Posner and Steve Uban were all in attendance. Superintendent Mike Malmberg, Director of Teaching and Learning Ryan Krominga, Principals Jason Savage, Wade Mortenson and Josh Smith were also in attendance Board seat election candidate Sarah Smith was also in attendance. The Workplace Session was called to order at 5:30 pm by Board Chair Sara Nagel. Mike Malmberg began the meeting by reviewing the current Policy: 630 via handout with the Board Members. He acknowledged that the policy was created a few years ago and that the current enrollment cap of 105 along with the preferred number if sections per grade level needed to be discussed. The board had open discussion over the following topics: 1. Enrollment cap. 2. Class sizes. 3. Open enrollment 4. The family center and their relationship with Pillager Elementary School. 5. Teacher and Intervention Staff numbers and how they affect class size. 6. The effects of changing enrollment caps and increasing sections on the budget. 7. Class size effect on achievement. 8. Staff development. 9. Curriculum and Technology The building project map was reviewed and what changes if any would need to be made if sections and enrollment caps were increased. After much discussion, the board agreed unanimously that there should be no changed to the existing policy 630. They all agreed that these topics should be revisited annually. The workplace session was adjourned at 7:20pm
