Benefit planned for Neal Buchite Sr.

NISSWA -- Ye Old Pickle Factory in Nisswa will host a benefit for Neal R. Buchite Sr., who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23.

The benefit will serve pulled pork or sloppy Joe sandwiches with baked beans and chips at $8 a plate. Coffee will be provided and beverages can be purchased at the bar. There will be door prizes, a silent auction, drawings, craft and bake sale and an auction for two wooden rocking horses that Buchite made. The live auction will be 6 p.m. The silent auction will end 7 p.m.

Buchite was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma lung cancer, which has metastasized to his bones following a routine checkup that revealed a spot on his lung.

Buchite was born in Crosby and raised in Fifty Lakes. He has been living in Nisswa for more than 10 years. The flyer for the benefit reads: “He is a devoted husband and a loving father of nine children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the young age (of) 72 Neal is determined to fight this horrible disease and be around for many years to enjoy life with his family.”

PEO Chapter CJ to meet

PEO Chapter CJ will meet Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Nedra Torfin’s home with Jenny Holden as co-hostess.

It’s movie day; no regular business.

NARFE meeting planned

The local chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association Chapter No. 738, will meet noon Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Brainerd Family Restaurant, the former Holiday Inn, on South Sixth Street, Brainerd.

Lunch is on your own followed by the speaker and the business meeting.

The speaker this month will be John Erickson, the school historian, who will speak on the history of Brainerd schools.

All federal employees and retirees in the counties of Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, Aitkin and Itasca are welcome.

Chapter DV of PEO to meet Monday

Chapter DV of PEO will meet for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Pizza Ranch.

Annie Swanstrom will be hostess.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. to find out about the Christmas party, PEO projects and Crust and Crumble Day.

Disabled American Veterans meeting scheduled

The monthly meeting for the Disabled American Veterans, Crow Wing County Chapter No. 22, will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Brainerd VFW Club.

Chapter 22 officers meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

Sons of Norway meeting planned for Thursday

The Sons of Norway Sagatun Lodge of Brainerd will have a social meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1420 S. Sixth St., Brainerd.

The program will feature Anna Haynes, an American student who decided to explore the idea of attending a folk high school in Norway for one year. Her story of this adventure is told in her own words in video with narration by her father, Frank Haynes.

The Center’s Morning Club Wednesday schedule
