Actor Anton Yelchin of 'Star Trek' killed

(Reuters) - Anton Yelchin, a Russian-born actor best known for playing the character Chekov in two "Star Trek" movies, was killed early on Sunday in a car accident, Variety reported, citing his representative. He was 27.

(Reuters) - Anton Yelchin, a Russian-born actor best known for playing the character Chekov in two "Star Trek" movies, was killed early on Sunday in a car accident, Variety reported, citing his representative. He was 27.

"Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a fatal traffic collision early this morning," said a statement from his representative, according to Variety. "His family requests you respect their privacy at this time."

Reuters could not immediately reach Yelchin's publicist for comment.

Yelchin was born in Russia, the son of two figure skaters, and emigrated to the United States as an infant.

He has appeared in numerous films and was in the TV series "Huff."
