BAXTER-The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota will have auditions for its 16th season-2017-18-from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter.

"We're seeking singers of all voice parts," Artistic Director Sarah Aamot stated in a news release. "I will be listening for musical skills like intonation and tone quality; whether a singer is suited to blending into choral sound or has solo ability. I'll also be listening for ability to control vibrato and volume, vocal flexibility and expressiveness."

Aamot stated all who like to sing are encouraged to audition.

"Ability to sight read music is helpful but not necessary," she stated. "There is no need to prepare a piece or bring music; it's informal and comfortable. Simply show up anytime during the audition period and be ready to sing. We hold auditions so I can get to know singers' voices, so I can determine whether the tone quality of their voice blends well into our group and then place them in the right section.

"This is an exciting time to join the Legacy Chorale," she stated. "We're taking a deeper look at our mission and purpose to bring extraordinary performances of great chorale music to the Brainerd/Baxter area and greater Minnesota. We're exploring ways to use sponsorships to make those concerts affordable to everyone in the community. And we're performing a wide range of music to appeal to all ages and tastes."

The upcoming season's theme is "Bach to Broadway: The Greatest Classical, Operatic and Broadway Choruses of All Time."

Upon acceptance into The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, singers will be given season schedules, program information and membership guidelines. Each singer signs a "Statement of Understanding" contract, pays a membership fee of $35 per concert series and pays for the cost of their own concert attire and transportation is provided from Brainerd to concerts in Greater Minnesota. Singers may choose to perform in the autumn or spring concert series, or both.

Rehearsals will be every Tuesday from 6:30-9 p.m. beginning Aug. 22 in the choir room at Brainerd High School. Autumn concerts are scheduled Nov. 10 in Onamia; Nov. 12 in Brainerd; and Nov. 19 in St. Cloud; and spring concerts are set April 27, 29, and May 6, 2018.

Singers from any community are encouraged to audition.
