NISSWA — Internationally renowned Bill Staines will open the spring concert season for Grassroots Concerts Feb. 21 at the Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar in Nisswa.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The venue is inside the Journey Church, next to the Nisswa Elementary School in Nisswa. This concert will be the 341st event of the concert series that began in 1988.
For more than 50 years, Staines has been the quintessential folk troubadour, playing 200-plus dates and driving more than 65,000 miles annually. His music is a slice of Americana, filled with cowboys, wilderness adventures, fishermen and everyday working people, a news release stated. Singing mostly his own songs, Staines weaves a blend of gentle wit and humor into his performances.
Nancy Griffith, a fellow musician, stated: “He carries on where Woody left off.”
“Folk music is rich in the human spirit and experience,” Staines stated. “I’ve always wanted to bring something of value to people through my songs.

“I have sung in all 50 states, although I admit that one was a karaoke performance at a bar in Honolulu. Music is really all I have ever known. It has brought me everything I have.”
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 with listening attention when accompanied by an adult. Seating is first-come, first-served.
