Country artist Chris Janson of "Buy Me A Boat" is still on cloud nine since the song debuted at No. 33 on Hot Country Songs and No. 1 on iTunes Country Chart to this week being in the Top 25.

"I'll be singing that song at Lakes Jam," Janson said when he called from his front porch in Nashville, while swinging with his toddler and drinking a cup of coffee. "'Buy Me A Boat,' it's blowing up, more than I thought it would. It's amazing. The reception has been incredible."

Janson will perform at 8:30 p.m. June 25, the first day of the third annual Lakes Jam hosted at Brainerd International Raceway.

Janson said Lakes Jam fans can expect "country music, straight-up country music with a definite rock and roll, yet storytelling, attitude. I like to say our shows are a roller coaster of ups and downs and true stories. They can expect real fun. I love taking the stage and I'm really proud of my band; they play real hard."

Janson said "Buy Me A Boat" is a lifestyle story about how people live their lives. He said the idea of the song came from his pick-up, his cooler, boats and the idea that everyone in the world has said if they were a millionaire they could solve all the problems in the world.

"This is a song people can relate to," said Janson. "It's the real deal."

Janson, who is an unsigned, independent artist, said he moved to Nashville about 10 years ago. He said he slept and lived out of his car and played in honky tonk bars. The Perryville, Mo., native first broke onto the music scene when he landed a year-long, four-show-a-day gig at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge on Nashville's Lower Broadway.

"It's been pretty unbelievable," Janson said of his music career. "I can tell you everyday I wake up it's a good day. I have a job that fullfills my goals and music people care to listen to. ... I'm getting to do what I want here.

"I'm proud to be in country music."

Janson said he decided at a young age that he wanted to be a country star. He said his mother bought him a guitar and he learned how to play it. He said he's not sure if he could do any other profession. He listened to bands/musicians such as Randy Travis, Guns 'N' Roses and Muddy Waters and learned how to play more instruments, such as the banjo, drums, bass, piano and harmonica.

"It's always been a fun hobby of mine and now it is what I do," Janson said. "I don't know anything different. I've been at it professionally for 10 years and it has always been good and fun and in recent years it has been even more sweeter and I'm so grateful to have that song."

Janson also is a songwriter, writing songs for the past nine years. He wrote "Truck Yeah" by Tim McGraw and has co-written songs with Chris Dubois, who has co-written a stream of No. 1 hits for Brad Paisley.

"I write for me and what people want to hear," he said. "I just love to write songs."

Janson said his favorite songs of all time are "I Prayed for You," by The McKameys and "Country State of Mind" by Hank Williams Jr. He said his favorite song to perform is "Buy Me A Boat," of course.
