Wilco to headline Grand Rapids Riverfest
Second-annual festival announces lineup for Sept. 10.
GRAND RAPIDS — Two-time Grammy Award winner Wilco will headline the second-annual Riverfest on Sept. 10.
Festival organizers KAXE Northern Community Radio and the city of Grand Rapids announced the lineup in a press release last week.
A Wilco concert on March 10, 2020, at Duluth's Symphony Hall was one of the last large-scale events in the Northland just before COVID-19 shut down concerts starting in mid-March 2020.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the rock band's acclaimed gold album, "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot." Rolling Stone ranked the album No. 3 on its list of " 100 Best Albums of the 2000 s." Wilco plans to release anniversary boxed-set packages Sept. 26 and also performed five "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" concerts in New York and in their hometown, Chicago, this month.
Also scheduled to perform at Grand Rapids Riverfest are Minneapolis-based roots musician Chastity Brown; Americana duo Shovels and Rope; and another Americana band, Wild Horses, from Grand Rapids.
Riverfest will be held at a new community amphitheater downtown at the Grand Rapids Area Library. Food and beverage vendors will be on-site. Free parking is available on parking lots and side streets downtown. There are several first-come, first-served campgrounds in the area.
Festival tickets are $99 for adults, $29 for kids age 11-7 and free for kids age 10 and under. The first 500 ticket buyers have the option of early entrance to claim a spot, according to the release. Tickets will be for sale at grandrapidsriverfest.com starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
