Grassroots Concerts welcomes Willy Porter

NISSWA - Willy Porter returns to the Grassroots Concerts stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a night of electrifying, lyrical music at the Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar at Nisswa.

The Washington Post describes Porter as "a dazzling acoustic guitarist with a moody baritone."

Porter last performed for the local, nonprofit music series in 1993. Since then he has become a favorite of audiences in the United Kingdom, where he frequently tours.

With his exquisite, tranquil guitar work, Porter would easily astonish an audience without singing one note. His talent is immediately obvious from the first note.

He has grown into a masterful artist by delivering a creative story in each composition, from wise and witty to elegant and edgy.

"Willy Porter is a relaxed and fearless performer who'll entertain you, as well as move you," said Acoustic Guitar magazine.

A Wisconsin native, the finger-style guitarist-songwriter has toured worldwide for the past 20 years and released his 10th recording, "Human Kindness," in 2014.

The title track of "Human Kindness" proclaims "Human kindness is alive and well, where we will find it, no one can tell; wear it for shelter, surround yourself; human kindness is alive and well."

This is the 27th year for the series and will be Porter's 293rd concert.

The rest of the spring schedule:

• March 27: The Lowest Pair (Kendl Winter and Palmer T. Lee).

• April 17: Sparky and Rhonda Rucker.

• May 3: Mark Kroos.
