NISSWA-Peter Mayer returns to the Grassroots Concerts stage for a fourth time to perform at the Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar in Nisswa.
Mayer-who will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. April 26-has graced the Grassroots stage on three previous occasions, most recently in 2013. His next visit follows the October release of an 11th album, "Catching Rain."
"Mayer writes songs for a small planet-songs about the human journey, about the beauty and mystery of the world. Whimsical, humorous, and profound, his music breaks the boundaries of 'folk' and examines life as a place of wonder," a news release stated.
"This native of Minnesota is a master storyteller," Folk Roots Magazine stated.
Mayer began playing guitar and writing songs when in high school. In college he studied theology and music, and then spent two years in seminary. Afterward he took a part-time job as a church music director while performing at clubs and colleges, and writing and recording his music.
In 1995, he quit his job and started performing full-time. Since then, Mayer has gradually gained a dedicated, word-of-mouth following, playing shows from Minnesota to Texas, New England to California. He has 11 albums to his credit and has sold more than 80,000 of them independently.
"I am truly grateful to those of you who help my music find its way into the world," Mayer stated. "I'm thankful for those of you who listen and share my songs with others."
Among his admirers are numerous fellow artists such as David Wilcox.
"There are at least a dozen Peter Mayer songs that I would love to learn myself, but I could never play them as well as he does," Wilcox stated.
The Live Well Nightclub and Coffee Bar is in the Journey Church, 5459 Lakers Lane, Nisswa.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 with listening attention when accompanied by an adult. Seating is first come, first served.
At each concert, Grassroots welcomes nonperishable food or cash donations for the local food shelf.
