PEQUOT LAKES-"Legally Blonde The Musical," a contemporary crowd-pleaser, opens a six-night run July 12 in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

Presented by Pequot Lakes Community Theater, the show will be staged at 7:30 p.m. July 12-14 and July 18-20.

"Legally Blonde The Musical" is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a Malibu socialite and sorority girl, who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her one true love, the handsome Warner Huntington III.

"Legally Blonde The Musical" follows the transformation of Elle as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Elle appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down, however, when her boyfriend dumps her so he can start getting serious about his life and attend Harvard Law. Determined to win Warner back, Elle uses her charm to get into Harvard Law. At school, she struggles with peers, professors and Warner Huntington.

During pursuit of a love she feared losing, Elle discovers that loving herself and staying true to her ideals are the most important things in the world. Her newfound confidence brings about some interesting friendships and career developments for not only Elle, but also a full cast

of characters.

The musical provides fast-paced, toe-tapping music, fun choreography and clever humor, the theater director stated in a news release.

In 2011 the production won three Laurence Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, the British equivalent to Broadway's Tony.

The cast includes Sylvia Borash, Travis Chaput, Eric Boyles, Laura Oldham, Amanda Longie, Abigail Oldham, Brianna Engels, Mollie Pierson, Erik Paulson, Nicole Rothluetner, Sarah Ciesloa, Richard Dreissig, Shane Nieuwsma, Rina Brower Von Siebolds, Bobbi Cruikshank, Luke Munson, Zachary Bauer, Ryan Stout, Phylipe Bell, Heather Pearson, Rachel Martin, Tim Leagjeld, Laura Leckband, Shayna Schmidt, Miranda Ostlund, Caleb Christensen, Libby Borash, Aaliyah Smith and Nariah Fett.

Amy Borash directs the show. Assisting with the production are Lauren Nickisch, vocal director; Ben Gordon, technical director; Emma Kellander, stage manager; and Tim Leagjeld, set designer.

Subject matter is PG-13. Parents should use discretion when bringing children.

A pre-show dinner option at Zorbaz in Crosslake is available for the July 13 show. It will provide a pizza buffet with salad and include transportation to and from the theater for those interested. Contact community education for more information.
